True Way Church Of God In Christ originated as a prayer meeting and Bible study held in the home of Pastor Darryl Johnson, his wife Theresa, and co-worker Pauline Jones in Charlotte, North Carolina. Initially unnamed, the Bible study's spiritual growth prompted the decision to establish a church, officially named True Way Church Of God In Christ after Pastor Johnson attended a Sunday School class at New Bethlehem FBH Church. The church was licensed on August 8, 1992, and the first services were held at its new location at 5732 Susan Drive on August 23, 1992.
As the congregation expanded, various church boards and committees were established. The Trustee Board was formed in November 1996, comprising Pastor Darryl Johnson as Chairman, Cynthia Ross as Secretary, and later Marilyn Scott. The Deacon Board began with Deacon Aaron Ross in March 1998, followed by Deacon Wendell Sain. Committees such as the Finance Committee and the Kitchen Committee were also created with dedicated members. The Music Ministry launched on August 8, 1992, featuring musicians like Sharan Rankin and eventually choir directors Sister Marcella Sain for the Adult Choir and Sister Cynthia Ross for the Youth Choir, established in 1998.
After over 30 years in service, Pastor Darryl Johnson continues to aspire for True Way Church Of God In Christ to continue its mission. Now located at 2931 James Road, the church has many ministries ranging from the Youth Ministry, Men's and Women's Ministries, and the Media Ministry, among others. True Way Church of God in Christ will continue to be a shining light in the community, spreading God's Word with faith, compassion, and love that inspires hearts and transforms lives.
